Snap Happy
Long after the veil has been lifted, the I Do’s swapped and the last feet have left the dancefloor, the evidence of that love, joy and inappropriate hip thrust dancefloor moves from Uncle George are re-lived over and over again in your photos.
I wanted to let you into the head of someone pretty special. The super talented and incredibly beautiful Bayleigh Vedelago was kind enough to lend some insight from the artist + brain behind the camera to help you Bridey’s know her thoughts on some commonly (and not so commonly) asked questions!
Take it away Bay!
G: What are the top 10 photos you must have on your wedding day?
B:
1. Pre-wedding rituals (morning surf, dad setting up the arch, champagne with the girls, seeing the bouquets for the first time, the first look by a loved one..photographing that gets me every time haha)
2. That moment when you are announced as Mr & Mrs
3. Walking back up the isle after the I’ do’s – I always love this shot, especially if there is confetti!!
4. The Kiss (of course)
5. The hugs.
6. Real moments of your friends & family enjoying the day, I think these are really special to have and look back on.
7. The details – the flowers, the view, the rain, the dress, the fairy lights, the handmade jam, the table settings, all the little things that make up your memory of the day.
8. Bride with her girlfriends, Groom with the boys.
9. Bride & Groom portrait session
10. The speeches, the toasts, the laughs (& the happy tears!)
G: what about sharing with us a couple of important ‘story telling’ shots that often get overlooked? for example, often photographers get the first look of the groom, however forget to get that special shot of the father of the bride when he see’s his daughter for the first time. Any others like that?
B: I think its really important as a photographer to be aware of people who have played a major role in the couples life, and to always be aware
of them in the environment and try and capture those special moments as they happen. I think candid images of the family and guests are really invaluable to have.
G: What would be some advice you would give to brideys to be re: briefing their photographer? At After the Rock on all levels of our program we provide our brideys with full briefing sheets, super detailed, however what do you like to know in the lead up to prepare?
B: I sometimes ask the bride to be to send through any images they have come across and love as inspiration, they obviously book a photographer
because they love there style, but I find this has helped me get inside their head a little more and better understand the way they envisage the day to be,
and how best to document it for them We try our best to cover everything, but it’s nice for brides to really think about whats on their “must have” shot list..
G: What is your favourite style of photos for weddings?
B: Natural documentation and capturing real moments, all the way.
G: What is your advice of what to do post wedding with the images?
B: Print and frame your favourite images! (at a professional lab) & really consider getting an album – An album doesn’t have to be the traditional oldschool leatherbound style – I love a good coffee table book format and design.
G: After being involved in so many different styles of weddings, with such a range of couples, do you have a message you would particularly like to get across to our Bridey’s to be?
B: Enjoy the day, and whatever comes. We are bombarded by amazing weddings out there that its easy to get too caught up in the details.
Remember the whole point of the day, to celebrate your love!
Thanks so much for your time and awesome insight Bayleigh!
